Darrick Wood School

Darrick Wood School is a secondary school in Orpington, London Borough of Bromley, United Kingdom with a current roll of 1785 pupils. It is a larger than average secondary school for boys and girls aged 11–18 and was first opened in 1975. Since then it has grown immensely adding new buildings, including 'SIX', the sixth form building built in 2011. At one end of the school there is a public sports centre and a swimming pool about 500 yards from the entrance that the school has access to. The school was awarded Specialist Technology Status in 2004. It also has a highly successful sixth form, HIU (hearing impaired unit), as well as a Learning Support Department included in the HIU. In its latest Ofsted inspection during April 2009 it achieved 'Outstanding', the highest grade attainable. A subject inspection of the Mathematics Faculty resulted in an Outstanding judgement in January 2011.

Being a Technology College, the school is equipped with facilities incorporating the latest technology that contribute to its pupils' success, including: electronic interactive whiteboards in all classrooms, six IT rooms, a library which houses a variety of both reference and fiction books as well as an additional IT room for private study, a Sixth Form Resource Centre with a reference library and an additional IT room exclusively for use by the Sixth Form, a music technology room, its own Sports and Fitness Centre as well as access to swimming pool facilities only 500 yards away. As of this year it is also now using a new cashless catering system which incorporates the use of biometric technology.

Famous quotes containing the words school and/or wood:

    Although good early childhood programs can benefit all children, they are not a quick fix for all of society’s ills—from crime in the streets to adolescent pregnancy, from school failure to unemployment. We must emphasize that good quality early childhood programs can help change the social and educational outcomes for many children, but they are not a panacea; they cannot ameliorate the effects of all harmful social and psychological environments.
    Barbara Bowman (20th century)

    It is not night when I do see your face,
    Therefore I think I am not in the night;
    Nor doth this wood lack worlds of company,
    For you, in my respect, are all the world.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)
