Language is such a large part of our everyday lives. We need a common dialect in order to communicate properly with one another. Sure, there is something known as body language, but it will only get you so far. We all need a common verbal way to communicate. In this society known as the U.S.A., that common verbal form of communication is called English. How good is yours? Now, I didn't say it's the distinct language of our nation, or anything like that. The truth is, I don't believe America has a distinguished language or dialect. On the other hand, most of us do speak English. This is why you should also learn to speak English, if you plan to live permanently in this country. The standard isn't going to change any time soon.
Many foreigners come to this country, speaking a different language than English. This is totally fine. However, you will want to learn to speak English, if you're planning to stay. Why do I state this you may ask? Basically because it's what's been spoken in America since it became America. Everyone knows this and most of us speak it well. There have been some issues with language barriers in recent times. With all of the Latinos entering our great nation, some think Spanish should be this country's second language. Hmm, this is a tough one. I do see why this issue has come about, but it upsets many other foreigners as well. Regardless of whether or not Hispanic people represent the largest foreign minority in this country, it hard to resolve this matter. Anyone you encounter form France, Germany, Japan, China, Taiwan, or various other countries, will not concur with this. They came here and took it upon themselves to learn to speak English, and they think the Latino community should as well. After all, it's only fair. I certainly wouldn't relocate to a foreign land, and not learn the native language. It would be far too difficult to live there without it.

The English masses are lovable: they are kind, decent, tolerant, practical and not stupid. The tragedy is that there are too many of them, and that they are aimless, having outgrown the servile functions for which they were encouraged to multiply. One day these huge crowds will have to seize power because there will be nothing else for them to do, and yet they neither demand power nor are ready to make use of it; they will learn only to be bored in a new way.

I took Spanish for five semesters throughout my high school and college career. It was beneficial and enlightening. It's great to speak another language. This is why I encourage everyone who comes to America to learn to speak English, and learn it well if you're sticking around. It just makes sense. You can acquire an online course or even try one at the local community college or University.
