Have you ever stopped to think how small the world is getting? There are so many technical advancements that have helped shrink the size of the world. By this I mean the ability to communicate instantly with people from one end of the world to another. Through e-mail, chat rooms, mobile phones and other communication services we can stay in touch with others any time of the day or night. Not that many years ago communications from one part of a state to another could take days; communications abroad took months, now it is instantly.
Unfortunately just because we are able to communicate with greater ease and efficiency, does not mean that we are able to speak with increased skill. There is still a great deal of hatred and misunderstandings between people. When I see this and hear about it through the media I realize that my grandmother was right in her assessment of things. She would often say that we needed to apply our Sunday school lessons to everything we do. By this she meant to treat others as you want to be treated. It is a simple rule. Probably one of the earliest things we learn in our Sunday school lessons, yet it seems like it is the hardest to consistently follow. It only takes one person to break the rule before others follow suit. If you are trying to treat others well through kindness and acceptance and they reject your efforts it is harder to continue to follow the golden rule. This is where other Sunday school lessons come in to play, such as turning the other cheek and forgiveness. These are easy concepts, but difficult tasks.
| Quote of the Day |
When I write down my thoughts, they do not escape me. This action makes me remember my strength which I forget at all times. I educate myself proportionately to my captured thought. I aim only to distinguish the contradiction between my mind and nothingness.
| —Isidore Ducasse, Comte de Lautréamont (18461870) |

The task of communication between nations becomes so complicated. Three may be fundamental differences; there may be religious differences and economic implications. There are also the personalities and personal feelings of the negotiators that ad or subtract from the communications. Even though there are so many factors for everyone to consider during these talks, just think how much smoother they would go if everyone would apply their Sunday school lessons. The lessons do not have to be worded the same or come from the same God the main thing to remember is that no one listens well if they are being treated badly. If we treat others with kindness and openness they are more likely to show us the same courtesy. When this begins to happen communications improve and understanding can begin to take place.
