The piano is an exceptional instrument. The keys have a breadth unlike any other classical instrument's, and it sounds magnificent when played alone or when played along with other instruments. Although musical crazes come and go, the piano will continue to be as popular as ever.

The best way to discover the amazing features on your piano is to play it. You are probably considering starting piano lessons, or you may be returning after years of not playing. With the right piano-tutoring program – whether you opt for conventional lessons, method books, software, or online – you can learn to play the type of music that is suitable for you.

Whether you are new to playing the piano or you have never touched a keyboard before, or maybe you last played when you were a child, you will be pleased to know that there is an infinite amount of educational resources available, regardless of your skill level and no matter what musical goals you have. Start by asking the right questions.

What do you want to do with your piano?

Do you want to learn to play a thrilling Chopin scherzo or a relaxing jazz number?

Are you interested in playing solo or with a group?

Do you want to learn so that you can accompany yourself as you sing?

How much time do you want to devote to practice?

How much money do you want to spend learning how to play the piano?

Will you be playing for special occasions or do you want to learn simply as a hobby?

Time is the principal factor in ascertaining your progress. You will also want to think about your learning style: are you a self-motivator able to learn independently or would you prefer being accountable to a teacher.

Piano lessons through the Internet are a fascinating option to face-to-face private or group lessons. Online lessons are convenient: you can take a lesson in your free time, morning, midnight, or noon and you can use your own piano. Most sites give an illustration of a lesson and provide some background information on the instructor. After you consider the information, you can choose whether you would prefer to buy the "set" of lessons, which normally requires you to also purchase their music and method books. The online lessons normally have the combination of the following:

 Quote of the Day
They raise their minds by brooding over and embellishing their sufferings, from one degree of fervid exaltation and dreary greatness to another, till at length they run amuck entirely, and whoever meets them would do well to run them thro’ the body.
—Thomas Carlyle (1795–1881)

You study the information they present on their website

You learn the information or music in a particular lesson

You will then either record the piece as a MIDI file or an audio or videotape

You send your recording to the instructor, who will then review your work and send you their comments via e-mail on their website.

Many online lessons are created more for the beginners. Other types of online programs are quick-start that may not give the best foundation of reading or theory. Some online programs simply focus on one type musical style. You will need to ascertain whether this is what you are looking for or maybe it is too limited.

Do not think by signing up for an online piano lesson that you will not be dealing with an instructor because you will. You will receive an e-mail address to which you can send questions before you choose to register for the lessons. Several of the interview questions mentioned earlier are suitable for assessing online education.

Using software is a great way to learn the fundamentals of music. A smart software program can teach theories in a way that is fun and stimulating. Then again, there are programs available for teaching piano to the beginner. It is important that every musician has an understanding and can feel rhythm. A theory book can clarify concepts, but software can give you advice on what you have essentially played into the computer.

Rhythm Ace: Is a no-fills curriculum that offers a sample rhythm for you to play and then considers two pieces of information: when you play a note and how long you held it. After that, the software program shows you what your rhythm actually was, in contrast with what it was supposed to be. You are awarded points for accuracy.
